Business development in the region is still too slow, according to a report commissioned by the Department of Energy and Climate Change.
The report, commissioned by The Guardian, shows the UK’s solar capacity is only enough to power the entire economy.
It found the average UK business would need a minimum of 40GW of solar capacity by 2030, with the country needing around 40GW by 2020.
The report has been called a “wake-up call” for those looking to scale up the sector.
It found that the UK needs more than 400GW of renewable energy by 2050.
The Independent also reported that more than 80 per cent of the world’s wind farms have already been commissioned and the world is set to reach a peak of 10GW of wind energy by 2040.
