A state official says that the unemployment rate for employers in the state is now 6.1 percent, down from 7.3 percent last week.
The official said that the increase came on top of a 5.5 percent decrease in the unemployment rates of employers in Washington’s metropolitan areas.
The state has been in a long-running economic downturn.
The number of unemployed workers in Washington jumped by 20,000 from the previous month, according to data from the Washington Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The unemployment rate is now about 6.5 percentage points below the pre-recession peak of 7.7 percent in February 2008.
